FPM welcomes CPMC endorsement of the Australian pain education standards
The Australian Standards for Health Practitioner Pain Management Education have been endorsed by the Council of Presidents of Medical Colleges (CPMC).
In the endorsement letter, CPMC Chair and Royal Australasian College of Surgeons President Associate Professor Kerin Fielding stated, "CPMC supports the intent of the standards and their role in promoting a consistent approach to pain management education. We also recognise the opportunity for ongoing collaboration across the specialist medical colleges as implementation progresses.”
FPM Board member Dr Noam Winter first presented the standards at the June CPMC meeting, where members provided positive feedback, welcomed the national framework and acknowledged the critical importance of strengthening pain management education across healthcare professions. The meeting also explored opportunities for greater collaboration across specialist medical colleges on education, training and multidisciplinary models of care.
As medical colleges, we are stronger when we work together. By sharing expertise and building alignment across specialties, we can strengthen education and support better care across the health system.
This collaboration will remain important as we move from endorsement to implementation and work with specialist medical colleges, education providers, health organisations and the broader health sector to translate the standards into education, training and professional development.
