EPA workshops underway ahead of 2027
FPM's first series of EPA workshops has helped trainees, assessors and supervisors prepare for implementation in 2027. Learn about the workshops and what's coming next.
We've delivered our first series of Entrustable Professional Activities (EPA) workshops, with three online sessions in September and October, and an in-person workshop at the 2026 FPM Spring Meeting.
The workshops helped trainees, assessors and supervisors better understand EPAs and how they'll work within our assessment framework from 2027.
Participants explored how workplace observations and feedback help assess a trainee's readiness for greater independence. The sessions also covered the entrustment scale, the roles of trainees, assessors and supervisors, and how supervisors use evidence collected over time to make entrustment decisions.
At the Spring Meeting, participants put these principles into practice through an EPA three scenario focused on multidimensional formulation. They worked through learning needs and discussed how further observations and feedback could help supervisors make informed decisions.
Thank you to Dr Tipu Aamir and Dr Melissa Viney for their clinical input and facilitation, and to everyone who contributed to the discussions.
What's next?
We're developing additional resources to support implementation, including an online version of workshop one, a practical guide for training sites, FAQs and a video walkthrough of the workplace-based feedback tools.
Workshop two sessions start on Monday 9 November 2026 and will build on these foundations with an EPA four scenario focused on workplace feedback and evidence.
