Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary care in specialist pain services and specialised pain units
The faculty has launched a new professional document PS17(PM) position statement and its background paper for a six-month pilot period.
PS17(PM): Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary care in specialist pain services and specialised pain units and its background paper set out the faculty's position on the essential role of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary care in specialised pain units under the supervision of FFPMANZCAs. They also identify the service, workforce and system conditions required to support safe, equitable and evidence-informed pain care across Australia and New Zealand.
The professional document aims to guide expectations for high-value care and inform service development, accreditation discussions, advocacy, workforce planning and future policy relating to specialist pain medicine services.
The new statement will be piloted until 4 April 2027 and we welcome feedback during this time.
