ANZCA Star

We established the ANZCA Star in 2021. It is awarded in recognition of those who make extraordinary and critically important contributions (clinical or non-clinical) in times of major disaster, conflict or in other circumstances outside the college.

Selection criteria

The sole criterion being those who make extraordinary and critically important contributions (clinical or non-clinical) in times of major disaster, conflict or in other circumstances outside the college. If awarded, the recipient/s will show particular selflessness, bravery and courage putting their own personal safety at risk to significantly impact the welfare, safety and survival of the community.


The ANZCA Star may be granted to a fellow, trainee, specialist international medical graduate (SIMG) or department.

Nominations process

Nominations may be made by three fellows of the college and be completed using the nomination form with a supporting nomination letter from each nominating fellow along with a curriculum vitae of the nominee provided.  Nominations will be marked as private and confidential.


Following adjudication and review by the Awards Advisory Panel, nominees will be presented to Council for decision. Recipients will be notified by phone within seven days of the Council meeting. The award will be presented at either the Annual Scientific Meeting, or at a regional or local event suitable to the recipient/s. See regulation 43 for full details.
