Professor Paul Myles named distinguished professor
Professor Paul Myles has been named one of Monash University’s inaugural Vice-Chancellor’s distinguished professors, a prestigious title recognising the university’s most senior academics for international pre-eminence in research or education within their discipline.
Professor Myles, Head of Alfred Health’s and Monash University’s Department of Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, was recognised in the field of anaesthesia part of the first cohort of distinguished professors announced by Monash University on 1 June 2026.
Professor Myles has made an outstanding contribution to anaesthesia, perioperative medicine and patient-centred outcomes research. He is an Australian NHMRC Leadership Fellow and a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences, with more than 450 publications and more than $80 million in NHMRC and MRFF funding. He is also an editorial board member of British Journal of Anaesthesia and Anesthesiology. His research has had a major influence on clinical practice, particularly through large-scale perioperative trials and the development of outcome measures to assess quality of recovery after surgery.
