Launching our new graduate and program outcomes for consultation
As part of our commitment to excellence in anaesthesia education and practice, we've been developing new graduate and program outcomes throughout 2025.
These program and graduate outcomes are designed to support meaningful assessment and ensure our training program produces clinicians who are not only technically proficient but also equipped to lead and advance anaesthesia care and practice across Australia, New Zealand, and internationally. The outcomes are the result of a rigorous, multi-phase process involving literature review, expert consultation, iterative feedback, and alignment with contemporary educational and professional standards. We are now at the stage of sharing these outcomes with other medical colleges and government agencies for consultation.
What are graduate and program outcomes?
Graduate outcomes are statements that represent the holistic capabilities of a new fellow at the completion of training. They serve as the organising core that the program outcomes collectively support and are scaffolded to. The graduate outcomes define what it means to be an ANZCA fellow: an adaptive, reflective, and ethically grounded clinical expert committed to excellence in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine.
The program outcomes describe the structured learning progression and competencies to be developed throughout the training program. Together, the graduate and program outcomes guide curriculum design, support meaningful assessment, and ensure the training program develops clinicians who are not only technically proficient but also capable of leading and improving anaesthesia care and practice in Australia and New Zealand.
